I have directly worked for non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) funded by UNICEF working as an advocate against practices that include child marriage and child labour. I have worked in front lines services working to address poverty-related issues and housing instabilities amongst other social issues. Presently, l had the honor of assisting front-line essential works including the general public with the obstacles brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
I have assisted individuals through grief, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, workplace-related concerns, and suicide ideation amongst other mental health concerns. Presently, l continue to provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT with the focus of returning to work for the many individuals that have required short and long-term disability claims for varying reasons. I have worked alongside insurance companies with ensuring the mental and physical capabilities of their employers, through the assistance of therapy.
I continue to utilize a person-centered approach emphasizing the importance of the therapist & client relationship, along with a cognitive behavioural approach to allow the client explore their thought patterns related to the challenging emotions and behaviours they occasionally experience. My counselling philosophy is based on an acknowledgment of the individual’s background and personal beliefs. Thus, l utilize a holistic approach in practice. My expertise allows clients, develop their own perspective of problem-solving and empowers individuals to make the changes needed in order to accomplish their goals.
Through experience l have the knowledge of the effects individuals experience living each day with the uncertainty of what the future holds. I have funded Rise Above Counselling Services with the hope to ensure the mental stability of the citizens of Alberta during these trying times.
