Hi! My name is Sharon and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist committed to supporting individuals on their mental health journey with care, compassion, and cultural sensitivity. I am passionate about creating a safe, affirming space where you feel seen, heard, and empowered to show up as your whole self.
I grew up in an African community where conversations about mental health were not often had. That experience shaped my deep commitment to challenging stigma and increasing mental health awareness. I believe that therapy should be accessible, affirming, and rooted in understanding the complexities of culture, identity, and community.
My practice is grounded in an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and intersectional lens. I understand that healing does not happen in isolation—it is connected to culture, history, and lived experience. I work collaboratively with clients to unpack emotional challenges, build self-awareness, and move toward growth and resilience.
Greetings,
I am a registered provisional psychologist dedicated to providing individuals of various backgrounds and individuals from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities
culturally informed trauma therapy. With a deep understanding of the unique experiences and challenges faced by marginalized populations, I am committed to creating a safe and inclusive space where clients can explore their traumatic experiences and work towards healing.
I use evidence-based therapeutic techniques, tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. I understand that trauma manifests differently within different cultural frameworks, and I am committed to integrating culturally relevant practices to ensure effective treatment. Together, we can address the emotional, psychological, and social impacts of trauma, whether it be from personal experiences, historical trauma, or systemic oppression.
My approach to therapy is rooted in cultural sensitivity, respect, and empowerment. I draw upon evidence-based therapeutic techniques and interventions, including Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), narrative therapy, and mindfulness tailored to the specific needs of each individual, taking into account their cultural background, values, and beliefs. Together, we can address the emotional, psychological, and social impacts of trauma, and the intersectionality of identity and trauma whether it be from personal experiences, historical trauma, or systemic oppression. I strive to support clients in their resilience, growth, and healing journey.
Whether you are navigating the impact of intergenerational trauma, anxiety, stress, grief and personal hardships, I am here to offer you an empathetic ear, a nonjudgmental presence, and the tools necessary to navigate your healing process. We can cultivate a therapeutic relationship built on trust, collaboration, and understanding.
With over 50 years of combined experience in Psychology, my team and I pride ourselves in helping you feel and function your best no matter where you’re starting from. We build on what you’re already doing well to help you deal with what’s currently troubling you. We believe that even if you have issues (like we all do) there’s nothing “wrong” with you.
Talking to us feels like a relaxed conversation with someone you know. We’re trained to help you feel safe and at ease while asking engaging questions to help draw out the deeper aspects of what’s challenging you. We also help uncover strengths and competencies you may not know you have.
Our practical, down-to-earth, no nonsense approach helps you quickly cut through the noise so you can feel better AND do better.
Even if you’re not sure if anyone can help you, feel free to reach out. Our knowledgeable, warm, and friendly “Intake Specialist” will be happy to answer your questions and help you connect with the right person. We’ll take care of you. We got you!
Hello!
My name is Ruta and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist with Rise Above Psychological Services.
My parents immigrated to Canada from a small country in Africa called Eritrea in the early 80’s and I’ve had the privilege of growing up on Treaty 6 land. My passion for mental health began with my interest in understanding the impacts of intergenerational trauma on BIPOC communities and how using a holistic lens and honoring one’s whole self can support us on our path of healing and growth.
I believe that everyone has a unique identity and I like to support clients by being present and providing a safe and non-judgemental space. I work from a collaborative and culturally sensitive lens, incorporating different modalities to best fit my clients needs. This includes, trauma informed practices, mindfulness, EMDR, trauma focused CBT, DBT, art expression, play therapy and person-centered therapy. I currently work with individuals ages 10+ and groups.
