I have experience in helping clients overcome depression, anxiety, addictions, communication breakdown, stress, and trauma. I am also experienced in working with diverse populations, particularly individuals from visible minority communities. I have significant experience working with youth. I have a strong interest in sports psychology, and have worked with current Canadian National Champions, members of team Canada in various sports, along with community youth, and university athletes.

As a therapist, one of my primary goals is to ensure that my clients receive personalized, evidence-based care.

Ava Marie is a Canadian Certified Counsellor who holds a Master of Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. Originally from the Caribbean, she has called Canada home since 2010. As a Black woman with lived experience across cultures, Ava brings a grounded, compassionate lens to her work with clients.

Her clinical approach is rooted in authenticity, compassion, and deep respect for individual stories. Over the years, she has supported clients in a wide range of settings—including outpatient mental health and addiction clinics, schools both locally and internationally, acute-care facilities, and private practice.

Ava is especially passionate about working with individuals who feel emotionally, relationally, or spiritually wounded by experiences such as addiction, substance use, cultural or religious trauma, and sexual harm. She also prioritizes offering care that is inclusive of visible and invisible disabilities. Her goal is always to provide a safe, affirming space where clients can feel empowered to take an active role in their healing.

Outside of her clinical work, Ava enjoys spending time with her close-knit circle of family and friends, playing Scrabble, or unwinding with Korean dramas. She is the proud mother of two sons—born thirteen years apart—who continue to teach her the beauty of growth and change.

Ava is honoured to be part of ABTN’s culture of genuineness, vision, and clinical growth, and is deeply committed to walking alongside clients on their journey to wellness.
