I am a Somali-Canadian therapist with extensive lived experiences navigating two identities. I am a Registered Social Worker with a Clinical Master of Social Work and have practiced across the spectrum of the social services field for 15 years. I understand that change takes patience and self-compassion which is a struggle in a world that demands individual responsibility for systemic oppression. My approach to therapy is: pro-Black, pro-choice, pro-queer, pro-trans, and focuses on being an affirming and safe therapist. I support all cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities.
I use a relational approach to build trust for individuals who may have internalized stigmas related to mental health. My passions are grief, trauma, relationships, and identity/life transitions. Some of the modalities that I use are Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Culturally Responsive Grief Processing.
